While it is common for most people to think about the interior of their home because this is where they spend most of their time. It is also very important to think about the needs of the exterior part of your home as well. This is what essentially protects your home from the elements, therefore ensuring that the inside of your home is well protected and kept completely functional. One layer of protection on the exterior of your home is your siding. This means that any issues with siding should be taken care of in a timely manner. Thankfully, there are certain signs that you can look for that indicate it is time to either repair or replace the current siding on your home. This article will discuss 3 of these signs in more detail:
Signs Of Rot
If you see any signs of rot in your siding, this is a huge indicator to have this area of your siding needs to be replaced. If you have rot, portions of your siding will actually be disintegrated away and weak, splinter pieces will remain. This leaves an opening on the exterior of your home, exposing some of the interior wood and materials. This can cause unwanted pests to get into this portion of your home, as well as water, both of which are unwanted.
Increased Heating Or Cooling Bills
If you notice that your heating and/or cooling bills are increasing, this is another sign that you may need to have your siding replaced. This may be a sign that you had poor siding installed in the first place, or that there are issues with the insulation underneath the siding. Your siding may also be falling off in some pieces, causing the hot and cold air to more easily escape from your home.
Cracks Or Gaps
If you notice that your siding has gaps in it, either due to warping or poor installation. Or if you notice that there is cracking that creates small openings, this is another indicator that your siding should be repaired. These cracks and gaps can allow for moisture, air, bugs, animals, etc. to get into your home. This can, in turn, create a lot of new problems for you that otherwise wouldn't be an issue. Also, the longer you take to repair this issue, the worse it will get, and the more the repair will likely cost you.
