You rake your lawn, you sweep your driveway, yet your property always seems to be messy and your house seems to look old. It may not be the bad luck you think it is; it could be your roof. Debris and other materials that gather on the roof naturally could be interfering with your attempts to keep your property looking good. Just as cleaning the inside of your house benefits from following a top-down pattern, so can your exterior property. In other words, get your roof cleaned.
Needles, Leaves, and More
You don't have to have trees overhanging your roof directly in order to find leaves, pine needles, bits of twigs, and more falling onto the roof and into the gutters. Wind can blow those over very easily. And when that wind starts up again, it can blow a lot of that debris down onto your lawn, making it look like you never did any lawncare in the first place. Remember that if your house's roof has valleys or hidden areas that you can't see from the street, it could harbor piles of this debris. So you might think your roof looks clean, but in reality, it has these stockpiles of natural trash.
That also means that cleaning your gutters out can seem like a thankless task. You clean them out only to have these hidden piles blow over and fill the gutters again.
Cleaning the roof is the easiest way to deal with this issue. If you live in an area with a lot of trees, then you may need to have a minor cleaning done on a regular basis. Otherwise, a cleaning once or twice a year could be all you need -- if that.
Another problem is algae. If your roof is shaded and doesn't get a lot of sunlight exposure (or if you're in an area where you just have a lot of clouds), your roof can develop a layer of algae that makes it look like you need a new roof immediately. Your house can look old and neglected if you let the algae sit there, and if a problem really is forming, it might be hidden by the algae until the problem becomes too big to repair. Luckily, algae can be cleaned off.
